Hey I have put together a quick 3 step social media guide to protect your business for the long haul. It’s already two days after Thanksgiving and I’m back in full swing. I know entrepreneurs and home business professionals leverage the power of the internet so you get to write more targeted content to get more traffic and leads for your online business.
Now I’m excited that your here today because I’m going to be breaking down the social media slap. I’m going to be sharing with you three strategies you can use to protect your business.
Social Media Guide – Past Present Future
Have you ever heard or maybe you’ve had your own personal account suspended with social media? Or maybe you’ve tried to do ads and had them not get approved. Then this is going to be the post for you.
Now before I get started make sure you comment below or contact me through email, Skype or Facebook. I definitely want to hear from you. I want to hear your thoughts and I will personally respond back. I love the feedback.
So what we’re going to do right now is break down past, present and future. I want you to understand marketing as a whole. I want you here for the long haul. The people that get the best results are really the people that can stick through the difficult times and find the solutions.
Lets start with the past. I have been fortunate enough to have gotten in this industry in 2002 and went full time by 2007. Something happened back in 2009 and 2010. A lot of you who were in at that time probably remember it. It was called the Google slap.
When I started to really market online it was around 2008 and Google was the marketing method of choice. Everyone was using it and the “Gurus” that you know today they were the guys that basically took advantage the it’s marketing platform. People were generating hundreds if not thousands of leads every single day.
So one day Google basically said one day “We’re going to make it difficult for the people in the home based business niche to advertise” and they basically gave them all the slap and kicked basically everyone off of the platform. You could really see it coming.
If you were a marketer and your opened to really understanding Google’s perspective you can see why they did it. It’s the same reason it’s happening with Social Media today. It’s basically just taking social media a little bit longer to figure it out.
So I want to make sure that your prepared. So how to we prepare ourselves for today with what’s happening? Essentially here’s the situation. We have to understand the difference between promotional and informative.
Think about Facebook for example. It was designed for friends, connect and talk about what they’re doing for the day and what they ate for dinner. Not to see our ads in their newsfeed selling some product that claims is going to make you a million dollars overnight.
So all Facebook or any of these social media sites including Google care about is their end user…
So what we have to do is play the game. We have to play by their rules and essentially do it in a way that is not so promotional but is more informative. So really there are some steps that you can take to do that.
If your basically doing a call to action to click your website and it’s taking them to your page to buy your doing it wrong. Even a squeeze page with some work from home stuff not the way to go. Facebook won’t accept those ads anyhow.
If your selling people off your newsfeed and your not delivering value your a good candidate to get banned. Essentially banned, shut down or ads not approved.
So step back and think about it. Lets say your going through your newsfeed and all you see is ads that’s not going to be very pleasant for the long term gain of social media. So Facebook wants their site to be around forever. They want their users to enjoy interacting with their friends.
There is a way that you have to do this to make sure your ads get approved and your account doesn’t get banned and that’s why we’re are going to move ahead into the future.
Social Media Guide – Future
Going into the future I have a pretty strict plan that I put into place when it comes to marketing on social media. You have to have some patience but if you make this work for yourself you can turn social media (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube etc) into a revenue generating machine.
There’s three parts to this plan. I call it connect, add value and enhance. Step one you want to drive traffic to GET TARGETED FANS to like your fan page. (Connect) So this is what I do. I will run campaigns specific to my niche but designed to inform.
For example my ad might say “For daily marketing and lead generation tips if you have a home business connect with me on my fan page.” Now I would only target that ad to people who are obviously in home businesses. So I’m giving them a reason to actually want to connect with me.
Step two is to add value. You want to build relationships with your friends by adding value. So consistently you want to treat your fan page as if it’s a blog. Provide content and give daily tips just like you said you would when they initially liked your page.
Step three would be to offer your products to your fans and custom audience that will enhance what it is that they are already going to do. So if you notice I said custom audience. When I’m in my fan page and I’m promoting content to my blogs and my websites I’m utilizing Facebook custom audiences to build up a list of individuals who consistently see my content.
Where people go wrong they keep showing the same content over and over to people who don’t really want to see their content. To be truthful even people that are your fans can get overwhelmed with your content if your not changing it up or not providing value and informing them. If your consistently just offering products and services to your fans there going to get annoyed with you. You want to give them what they initially came in to like your page for.
Probably one of my best strategies is to get people to your fan page and build a relationship with them. Once they realize your not just there to sell them something after giving lots of value over the days or weeks you can invite them to a webinar. I want you to notice the correct way to invite someone to a webinar vs me saying “hey learn how to make a ton of money” or “hey let me show you how to get a million leads in three days.”
All you have to do is say “Hey what are you up to this Sunday night? If your free I wanted to personally invite you to a live internet traffic workshop I’m having.” So I’m being extremely social with my ad. I’m utilizing this ad to only target my fans and the custom audience that I’ve built on Facebook from people who have seen other pieces of content that I’ve put out on the internet.
Then that ad will invite them to a live webinar. They click on that ad, sign up for my webinar, and get sent to a thank you page. So invite them to webinar, drive traffic to a webinar, send them to thank you page. Simple.
Now remember, this information is going to fans and people that already know, like and trust me. I’m not doing any type of advertising where I’m selling products where people don’t know me. I will do ads to get them into my circle, into my hub, my fan page. Once they’re there it’s all about providing them value. Then I can come back and promote my products and services.
Now lets think about how this would work. Lets say you spend fifty cents or a dollar to get the fan. Then they go to your webinar and register. Your being extremely social to your fans and your willing to see the long term vision of what Facebook is trying to preserve. That is what’s happening to their users in the newsfeed so their experience overall is what people want and essentially like on Facebook.
If you understand this you’ll be excited because if people like their experience there will be more people coming to Facebook for you to build relationships with and market to later on. If you are promoting awesome content and not doing this wrong and incorrectly you’ll be around for a long time. The people doing this wrong will be gone.
So hope you got a ton of value going through these three points. Hopefully it changed the way you look at social media. You’ll have more fun connecting with all the people who know, like and trust you. To be quite honest your going to make a lot more money and the people that buy your product will be excited because your going to enhance what it is there already doing.
