I’m sure you’ve heard the term “marketing guru” if you are building some sort of online business. These so called online marketing gurus seem to be everywhere these days. How many of you give me permission to be honest rather than gentle? Yes?
When you go to a meeting, workshop or seminar. Whatever you want to call it. There are many marketing gurus, speakers and so called experts in just about every niche imaginable. My question is when you go to all these teachers what qualifies them to teach what they teach?
Online Marketing Guru?
Most problems I believe are actually caused by the speakers or these so called marketing gurus.
What I’m saying is you have to consider the source. Anyone can give advice the question is is it good advice?
A while back I was attending an internet marketing conference. You have different speakers and at the end we had this panel of 6 or 7 people. They were sitting there talking about social media, SEO, PPC and so on. Basically all these internet marketing strategies and this and that.
I thought to myself. Some of these guys don’t know what the hell they are talking about. One of them in particular actually referred to himself as an online marketing guru and master of email marketing. Quite frankly some of these people had minimal results but here they are on the panel talking about how they are killing it on Facebook but had no proof. I could see just by looking at their screen shots and what they had to say.
Listen, I don’t consider myself a guru or some social media expert but one of my Facebook fan pages I have over 200k fans. I don’t consider myself a guru or Youtube expert but one of my channels I have 3.2 million views. I don’t consider myself a guru or mlm expert but I have built multiple seven figure companies with downlines exceeding 40 thousand people.
I’m not here to boast but I am here to make a point. From now on before you buy another book, seminar or book I want you to ask yourself. The speaker on stage or some webinar what qualifies them to teach what they teach. If they are referring to themselves as a “marketing guru” you may want to take a bathroom break till that person gets off stage.
Seriously, I’m all for people doing well and making lots of money. But referring to yourself as some sort of “guru”!! Really? Then charging someone big money to teach them crap that doesn’t even work.
Have they been there and done that or are they just trying to sell you informational products to make money.
If you knew the truth of it you would probably never buy another informational product out there…. That’s really how much crap is out there. I’m not kidding.
I can’t tell you how many courses I have purchased in the past that I could of gotten for free on Youtube with a ton more value. That would save you a whole lot of time and money.
There are so many people out there that have no money, no education, got no background but they are a so called expert or marketing guru. They have no experience and no credentials but they are ready to sell you their training program.
It’s really unbelievable and crazy to see how many people on the internet are buying their junk.
A while back I was in a juice company. It was actually my second network marketing company that I tried to build. I was able to get it going a bit. Built a team of about 100 or so people. I probably broke even or made a few bucks. Nothing crazy.
But I can remember one guy in particular. He broke away from the company. He had really no success in mlm or network marketing. We had the same upline and they basically told me he quit to go do something else.
Anyhow this person made their own product. I’m not going to say exactly what that product was for privacy reasons. Anyhow, he was selling this information product showing people how to build a business. He ended up making millions off this product.
It was just kind of funny. Here you have this guy selling a book about how to succeed in network marketing but he really never made it in network marketing himself.
I’m not stepping on anyones toes. I think it’s great he saw an opportunity to sell tools and information products to all the MLM people out there struggling. There are MANY leaders out there that have done this or still are.
Unfortunately most new people have no idea who’s training is actually going to help them and which ones they’re just wasting their time and money on.
There are also many leaders that have made it in MLM that sell information products on the front end. There is nothing wrong with it. The problem is there are thousands of people doing this that have $7 dollars in there bank account and maybe sponsored three people in their lifetime.
You see, basically anyone can call themselves a “guru” these days or some kind of internet marketing guru but have zero success.
You can see I’m pretty passionate about this. It drives me nuts. Just make sure you look at the person and learn a bit about that person before you start buying their stuff.
Most training in just about every niche you can get free these days. There’s no need to hire some coach or guru that’s going to charge you 5k for 5 or 10 hours of his time. It’s just crazy. It’s kind of sickening to see how many people are doing this these days.
I get it. Most people want to succeed so bad they are willing to pay unfortunately most of these people are just going to lose there money.
Ask yourself what have they done in business. What are they doing now? Use this benchmark and you’ll learn a lot faster and save yourself a lot of money.
