If you want to know how to be successful in business it’s time to get rid of all your excuses. You can either make money or you can make excuses. You can’t do both. I guarantee you every poor person I know or come across have some very similar things in common. They obviously have no money. They don’t have a pocket full of cash. But ALL of them absolutely have a bunch of excuses. Every single person I’ve ever met in business that was broke also had all the excuses.
How To Make A Successful Business
What is an excuse? It is nothing more than a well planned lie. So I don’t embrace excuses. I embrace solutions. When I got started I wanted to know how to have a successful business. I can remember being so broke, I didn’t know anyone in business, I was young but none of these things were going to get in my way. Personally I was going to do whatever it took to become successful. Nothing was going to get in my way. So you can either make money or you can make excuses.
There are people in the same industry as you. There are people out there that sell similar services. There are people in the same city doing that same kind of business. Yes on all of these? Then how come there are some people doing the same exact business as you making 3, 4 or 5 times what you’re making? They are in the same industry selling the same services in the same city.
When I started my first business I remember a family living in the Boston area. They were selling the same products as me living an hour away but I was making $500 a month and they were making $100k a month. Why? Because they got rid of there excuses a long time ago. That’s it. If you want to know how to make your business successful you must get rid of the excuses and eventually it will happen.
There is only one variable. It’s not like they have special access to services so they can sell. They have the same industry, same services and they live in the same city. So the only variable is YOU! So it’s an equal playing field.
How To Have A Successful Business
So, as some of you know, the first company I started with was Herbalife. They are a health and nutrition company out of California. Every month they would have these STS meetings. For me they were about an hour give or take. I was so fired up about making it work I never missed one. I went to them all every month. But as I started to build my team you wouldn’t believe the excuses from people.
Most of them would show up the first time but it was like pulling teeth. Usually they responded off one of my advertisements. So I would call them. Build a relationship with them. Maybe send them out an information package or get them on a live conference call. But when they had to actually get in there car and actually do something it was excuse after excuse. It was actually pretty pitiful.
Here are some of them. “Josh why is your meet up so far away. It’s like it’s 20 minutes from my home. It’s a 20 minute drive. It’s rush hour. Maybe when you do it in downtown I’ll come”.
Then there were those that showed up. They seemed relatively excited about taking the products and growing their business. They kept asking me all type of questions how to succeed in business. Then they would just disappear forever. It’s like Jim Rohn said “sometimes the birds get them”!
Let me tell you something and I bet many of you can relate. I could of had a meeting 5 minutes from their home and they still won’t F’n show up. It wouldn’t make a difference do you know why? Because they have the wrong mindset.
Here’s another great excuse. I don’t have time. I always respond “you don’t have time”? Interesting. Just full of excuses. They’re not making any money but they are so tired because they seem to think they are working so hard. Remember the definition of insanity. People keep doing what there doing over and over expecting a different result.
Here’s another excuse I would get. “How come the meeting is like $5 bucks. They are charging $20 at the door. It is too expensive”. Lets put it this way if you want to grow a real business and you can’t even afford $20 bucks to learn some strategies to grow your business I don’t know what to say. I don’t even know if I can help someone like that quite frankly. I have nothing to teach someone with that mindset.
How To Make A Successful Business
So these are some of the excuses but isn’t that interesting. Those people that never showed up to my meeting never affected me. The ones that showed up once and never came back. Trust me I never lost sleep over it. My life was good and I went regardless of who showed up.
I wasn’t going to change my life whether they showed up or not. Believe me I wasn’t getting rich off their $20 bucks. That went to the people running the STS meetings to pay for the hotel, shakes and speakers. Basically all the money went to the venue.
I still talk to some of those people from 14 years ago that were in Herbalife with me. I can count on one hand how many of those people moved to other companies with me and went on to make hundreds of thousands of dollars some more. One thing I learned doing business for 14 years. There are A LOT of people with excuses out there. Much more than not. That is why most people are just living average or below average in terms of how much money they make.
Think of that for a moment. I reached close to a million people through advertising in a little over a year to find 5 serious people. Everyone else were just full of excuses. They all just disappeared never to be heard from again. So if you want to know how to be successful in business it’s time you get rid of all your excuses and start making money!
