Before we jump in I want you to understand the different between Facebook organic reach and paid reach. In short, organic is free and paid cost money. No need to overcomplicate things.
So is it true that Facebook organic reach is dead? If your not familiar let me explain. Marketers saw an opportunity with Fan Pages to get laser targeted audiences for pennies on the dollar and be able to reach out to those fans for free. Many people were reaching out and having huge success without spending any money on advertising in all kinds of niches. But over the past year we have all seen a sudden decrease in our organic reach. Why is that?
Is has to do with something called EdgeRank.
If your not familiar Facebook uses an algorithm that determines what is shown in the newsfeed. This is called EdgeRank. In the past six months we have all seen a dramatic decrease in our organic reach with brand posts. Yes, Facebook recent updates and tweaks has once again changed the algorithm.
You may be asking yourself why does Facebook continue to do this. In short, it’s because of their growth. There is so much content to show with more and more people liking more and more fan pages. So Facebook has cut the organic reach simply because there is not enough places to put all these pictures, quotes, videos, etc. So Facebook is cleaning house to keep everyone interested.
For most of you this change is definitely frustrating especially to small and medium sized businesses who were dependent on high organic reach. I know your going to hate to hear this but Facebook had to make these changes to avoid being a spam box or another MySpace. They had to change fast.
So… can you become profitable getting a 2-6% Facebook organic reach? The answer is a resounding YES!
Over the next several days I will be posting several ways to increase your Facebook organic reach.
